The Collapse of Communism

There were many factors which led to the collapse of communism in the USSR and all over the world( most of the countries). One of them happened during the late 1980s. During the late 1980s, particularly 1989 many of the European countries along the Eastern Bloc started to deny communism. Poland fell first and then down to Czechoslovakia, then Romania and so forth.

Communism was the government controlling the Society, meaning sealing from the people that should be actually getting paid more. Everyone had to be the same. Many people In Russia started to watch American Movies which showed the Russians how The Capitalists lived. The Russians wanted the same so they adapted their culture and as Mikheil came to power, he made the communist fade. As the Soviets turned into Capitalsts during 1990 and 1991, it spread the the Eastern Bloc for it to turn Capitalist too since there as no point of communism anymore.

The Berlin Wall was finally torn down as an official ending to the Cold War because it showed that the Soviet Union no longer supports communism.

Mikhail Gorbachev and the Collapse of Communism

Peristrokia- economic restructuring. People were able to open their own small business'.
Glasnost- openness, meaning the society had the ability to use speech to the government to improve its society.

Mikhail Gorbachev was a Russian Ruler that wanted Communism and no other society that can affect it. He wanted an arms race but realized during the 1960's and 70's that this can no longer happen so they wanted more of a democracy. Also more rights to people were given such as the Peristrokia. People were allowed to have small business like in America which is a Capitalst and a Democracy. Also Glanost was created which allowed people to speak a little in their society and part of the government.
As all of the above happened, the society started to clash. The people started realizing that society now is worse and they want to continue what they are doing which is adopted more of a cemocratic society rather than communist. Soon, elections come in to Russia. After that, Mikhail Gorbachev started to like democracy and favored Democratic power over an arms race which brought Russia to even a more higher chance of revolting and becoming Democratic.
Poland tried to leave communism and struggled out of it. The Polish Acrbishop became pope and supported a anti- communist movement. Poland struggled and struggled out of it and Hungary's communists disbanded because they saw what poland did and wanted the same. As poland and Germany were rebuilding their society and economy, east germany's communist also falled. Later germany's wall of berlin fell and allowed open borders. Romania also fell and so did many other countries. They adopted Democracya nd Capitalism and that spread all over.

Nelson Mandela and Apartheid

Apartheid- was a segregation policy of government in Africa about blacks, whites, and indians. Blacks couldn't do many stuff as the whites did. The Africans and Whites had unfair citizenship rights. Apartheid was a separate development between the different races of Africa.
Nelson Mandela  became president of ANC. He later got rid of apartheid with 62 % votes on him. He declared free citizenship and no labor. He wanted equal rights between all races living in Africa. Nelson agreed to create a government and became part of the common wealth.

African Independence

One of the things that happened from the 1950's to 1970's in Africa was a lot of Independance. At first, the African continent was controlled by European countries athat colonized it. It was used as a place for resources for the European Industries. The Africans were tought the modern way to dress and the European Culture including language.
Most of the Africans didnt like that and from 1950 to 1980, the African countries had their independance back. Some of the leaders that helped accomplish this were Leopold Senghor who became the first president of Sengal. Nkrumah was also a famous president of Ghana. The Congo, algeria, and many other countries had gained their independence too. But after all the countries did, the society was weak. The Africans were not ready yet to establish their own democracy and government. They still had trouble in life and faced many civil wars.

Film Lesson: "The Right Stuff"

The U.S. and USSR were in the Cold war and during that time, both of them wanted to compete against each other with a space race. The Space race was a race bewteen USSR and US to go to the moon first. The USSR had a lead because they built the first Rocket Ship and had satellites.
The Americans got mad and wanted themselves to win the Space so they spent a lot of money into building NASA and required smart, intellegent, and healthy fit people to join. The Americans made it first to the moon by sending a monkey. The monkey landed on the moon and survived. So the Americans sent then humans since the monkey survived and the USSR got mad at us.

Film Lesson: "Schindler's List"

The scenes here weren't powerful in the Schindler's List but if you were there watching the Nazi slaughter the Jews... That was powerful. Films cannot show this because most of it is acted out. The holocaust was like that except they didnt talk english to each other. The germans spoke sloppy german. The Jews and Poles pronounced words like dogs and the dogs in the film had their tails up when the pure german shepherd race had tails down. What im trying to do is to say that you can see this is a film acted out.
Oscar Shcindler showed how hew destroyed jews but felt bad for them and bought them so they wouldn't die since money was what they were for from the jews. It was wrong to do such a genecide to a human but in Poland, Russia, and Germany things havent changed at all about racism as they did in WW2. In the film, it shows how Jews were mass killed for doing nothing wrong. The people were smart and knew where, when and how to run and hide. Most of them got killed in gas chambers and then after that, America won the war and they went to form israel but some went to America for new life.

Film Lesson: "Night and Fog"

This film was true but not powerful because looking at a boring documentary isn't as good as watching a movie as if it was in real time. The documentary pictures may have been powerful pictures for other people but i personally saw these pictures thousands of times and their nothing new because i watched most of the movis that consist of WW2 contents.
This film showed the rise of Hitler and also his "globe". He wanted to control the whole world. His army was strong but he also he bombed England 40 days straight. This movie showed a lot of death and the results of WW2 and the holocaust because thats when the Americans and Russians won the war.

The Treaty of Versailles (ended WW I)

The Treay of Versailles ended World War 1 in a bad way. It caused the Germany to clean up every single thing that they messed up, ruined, damaged, misplaced, or destroyed during World War 1. This was unfair because Germany alone did not do this as well as England and France and other countries also ruined things in Germany and other countries. Germany was forced to repair everything and this happened for the next 10 years.

Adolf Hitler rose to power so he can industrialize Germany once again as the other rulers did so Germany can be a big power like other European countries. As the years went on and on, Hitler industrializred Germany and it was once again a super power that had guns, supplies, surplus of food, big buildings, and lots of engineering. Then Hitler said that they will kill the jews because they did this to us and that they are dirty. The germans listened to him and started WW2

Some historians say that because of the Treaty of Versailles, the germans had to clean up them mess which angered adolf hitler and germany. The germans got really pissed off and started WW2 which was considered caused by the Treay of Versailles

Mustafa Kemal (Ataturk) and the Modernization of Turkey

Mustafa Kemal was a man of Turkey that fought for the country and served as the first ruler as a president of Turkey.
He wanted to modernize Turkey like in America and Europe. The thing that he didn't want was to lose the country religion. He still wanted to have Islam as a religion, but didn't want top be as Muslim as the other countries with Islam as their main religion.
Mustafa Kemal didn't allow Fez as a show of ignorance to the other Islam Countries which was secular in because he wanted to make the people of Turkey were hats shoes, and other clothes as the Europeans did. He got them most of the same technology as the Europeans and the Americans had and Turkey now wants to be part of the European Union. Mustafa Kemal was later known as Ataturk for modernizing Turkey as Gandhi did for his country.

Secular- a doctrine that doesn't allow/permit something religious against a religion.

Film Lesson: "Gandhi"

Gandhi lead India to its independence during the year of 1947. The moment when he got kicked off the train even dough he bought a first class ticket, he knew that something needs to change. He created a movement in order to prevent the british from damaging India. The Idian pople wanted to be free but the British didn't let them. The British were in control of all of India.
As more British wanted to be free, they started to listen to him and later to follow him. Gandhi said that in order to be free, they must use non-violence. The more time the Indians got, the more time they spent making their own cloth, food, and other supplies. But what they did not have was salt which was very important to them, but the British did. The people of India had to buy salt from British and pay taxes. So then Gandhi went with his men to the ocean on a long journey of around 240 miles in order to get salt of their own, not from the British.
As the British saw how the Indians following Gandhi made their own salt and cloth, they started to get angry but yet they didn't stop taking control of India. So Gandhi and his people went to the british and revolted without violence until they the Indian's were free. They got their freedom back and British control fell apart.
Gandhi was shot a year later as a result of him wanting people of 2 different religions living together.

Extra Credit:

I think that one day, the people of India would have rebelled until the British would have no positive results from controling India. The British would then leave or lose money. World War 2 was occuring at the time and ended at 1942 which made England a little all over the place and weakened.
